Born in 1949 in Brakel (Flanders, Belgium), Marc DESCHAMPS quickly learns from his mother (a pharmacist in their little village) the sense of a real proximity with local people and from his father (First Vice-President of the young European Parlement) a strong interest in global approaches : deep roots for a "glocalist" who decides to think "global" ... and to act "local" !
He graduates from the Catholic University of Leuven as an engineer (1973), specializing in applied mathematics, and then gets his degree both in Law (1978) and in Economics (1979).
In 1979, he joins SOCIETE GENERALE DE BELGIQUE, the main Belgian Holding company, controlling nearly forty percent of the Belgian industry, where he rapidly becomes the principal assistant of one of the Managing Directors. He works on the re-structuration of the Belgian steel industry and on the launching of new high-tech redeployment projects.
In 1984, he is one of the 42 selected international mid-career executives attending the SLOAN PROGRAM at STANFORD UNIVERSITY... taking advantage of his presence in the Silicon Valley for studying the young and rapidly growing local venture capital industry.
In 1986, he is back at SGB and creates SYNERFI, a development capital firm dedicated to small and medium sized enterprises which, after a take over bid of SGB, enters the SUEZ GROUP's portfolio of venture capital companies along side SUEZ VENTURE, EUROSUEZ and a few other dedicated funds.
In 1992, Marc DESCHAMPS operates the management buy-out of one of SYNERFI portfolio's companies, INVESTRUCTURE, which he focuses on conceiving and implementing Management Information Systems for SMEs : a basic need he had identified while studying numerous investment opportunities.
In 1995, just after the Conference of Barcelona on the Greater Mediterranean Market, he flies to Tunis and creates the first local entity of the future INVESTRUCTURE network; a network which progressively covers more than twenty countries.
In 1999, he brings INVESTRUCTURE's international network into a joint venture. The new company, covering more than forty countries, is then taken over by a major international player while INVESTRUCTURE keeps on serving its trusted clients.
In the early 2000s , Marc DESCHAMPS and his brother Benoit (a pharmacist with a MBA degree from Leuven University ) develop in INVESTRUCTURE business units dedicated to "Business Scouting" and "Business PASS" for servicing investors in emerging countries with high growth potential.
In addition to these business activities, Marc DESCHAMPS is also a founding member of the FORUM FRANCOPHONE DES AFFAIRES in Belgium.
As a natural complement for a "glocalist", he is also founding director of the ASSOCIATION DU MANAGEMENT and of LA FONDATION DES ADMINISTRATEURS in the French speaking part of Belgium.
He is also, for nearly twenty years now, an active director of the ANET PC, a centre for brain-handicapped children, located in Brussels.
ASA GYM in Ath, a sport club of which he is the President since 1998, has become within five years the most important gymnastic club in Belgium, with more than six hundred active members practicing classical gymnastics and sportive dancing.
Finally, Marc DESCHAMPS is also a lecturer at various universities : he is invited at SOLVAY BUSINESS SCHOOL (Brussels), HEC (Liège) and EDHEC(Lille, France) for lecturing in business finance and strategy.
